Neri Oxman

Oxman is an accomplished ecologist and biologist. She is an American-Israeli designer, and known for art and architecture that combine design, biology, computing, and materials engineering.

​Maria Sibylla Merian

She is a naturalist who incorporates her art talent and her interest in the environment as a scientific illustrator. Merian was one of the first European naturalists to observe insects directly.

Hedy Lamarr

Hedy Lamarr is an Austrian-American actress, film producer, and inventor. She co-invented the frequency-hopping spread spectrum.

Zaha Hadid

Zaha Hadid was a British Iraqi architect. Her mother, Wajiha al-Sabunji, was an artist from Mosul while her brother Foulath Hadid was a writer, accountant and expert on Arab affairs. Her early childhood trips to the ancient Sumerian cities in southern Iraq sparked her interest in architecture.

Rachel Carson

Rachel Carson, writer, scientist, and ecologist, grew up simply in the rural river town of Springdale, Pennsylvania. Her mother bequeathed to her a life-long love of nature and the living world that Rachel expressed first as a writer and later as a marine biologist.

Elga Wasserman

Elga Wasserman earned her Ph.D. in Chemistry from Harvard University and her J.D. from Yale University. She was a scientist, attorney, author, feminist, and political activist. She loved to express herself through her writing and it helped spread the joys of science to a wide audience.
